One thing is absolutely clear, and we all know it deep down, that procrastination (the art of putting off) is hateful and harmful in the long run. Research has shown that those with a tendency to procrastinate are more stressed and therefore have a lower sense of wellbeing in both body and spirit. It is likely you will also become frustrated at yourself in the future.

In many aspects of our lives it is a far better option not to think about it too much - to stop procrastinating. It is often better to pay that bill up-front or on time, it could possibly save us money and knowing it is paid decreases the stress. How many of us have regretted not meeting up with that old friend or going on that blind date? Should have not thought about it - should have just done it! The same goes for our health and fitness - you know in the long run it is better for our minds and our bodies, so why not just do it?

Telling a serious procrastinator to ‘just do it’ as Nike would say, is like asking a depressed person to cheer up - its not going to work! Lots of small steps are required to break the habit of procrastination - no leaping required here!

Motivation - Whether it’s dieting, health or fitness you need a motivation. Is it to complete an ultra-marathon or to make it around the block with the dog without keeling over? You may be looking forward to a wedding day or just want to treat yourself to a new wardrobe, you might even desire to change your whole life - whatever your motivation happens to be it is important to have one. Why are you looking for change and what will you do with it once you have it?

Bite size pieces - Whatever your motivation you need to make sure your goal is tackled in small chunks. Ultra marathon runners need to increase the mileage weekly and monthly, they cannot go straight out and run 50 miles! Dieting requires huge commitments and effort so must be tackled in small chunks - make small alterations to your diet and exercise regimes and each week or month make more changes.

Enjoyment - It is very important that you make your changes enjoyable - run with groups or use the alone time to listen to your favourite music or audio book. Meet up with other dog owners and walk together. Removing bread and cakes from your diet - find a healthy option that you genuinely enjoy.

Consistency - The best programme, whether it’s for fitness or dieting, is the one that forms a habit. A key to success in these areas is being able to make the changes and eventually do them without thinking. The best way is to do it often - as much as you can and at the same times if possible. Walk the dog for 45 minutes every morning at 6:30 or go for that run every Monday, Wednesday and Friday - just form a habit and panic if sometimes your routine is broken. Again it must be enjoyable so don't let it completely rule your life but always make the real positive choice. Although going to the cinema might be preferable to going for a run, try to arrange your life so you can do both.

Convenience - Everybody says ‘I don't have time’ or its ‘too much hassle’. It doesn't have to be. Walk to the shops rather than drive, or buy a weeks worth of smoothie ingredients - plan ahead and things don't seem so difficult to plan into your daily life.

Reward - Plan your goal but also plan your reward - I’m going to complete that 10km run in 6 months time - after that 10km run I'm going to go away for a few days with my partner. If you have a specific goal and a reward for completion then write them down along with the step-by-step plan to achieve that goal.

Get started - Do it now - walk round the block, do one press up, put your shoes on and run 20 miles, put down the beer and grab something green and fresh. Whatever your goal it can be achieved. Stop procrastinating and at least attempt it. Better to attempt and fail than not attempt at all.

The Importance of Magnesium

December 03, 2015

Many of us, particularly young people, are not getting enough magnesium. Most of us have no idea just how important this mineral is and the vital role it plays. With over 300 biochemical operations dependant on magnesium it is safe to say it plays an important role!

Top of the list is magnesium's ability to lower blood sugar. if your blood sugar rises too fast or too frequently your pancreas reacts by firing insulin into the blood stream. High insulin levels can lead to excess fat, inflammation and coronary disease, all because of a magnesium deficiency.

Magnesium is good for cleansing the bowels, as when ingested, it pulls fluid to the intestine - allowing stools to be evacuated more easily and relaxes the muscles of the stomach.

Magnesium also lowers blood pressure and is used to treat heart arrhythmia and pre-eclampsia.

According to a study published in the journal of Medical Hypotheses, low levels of magnesium are linked to lower amounts of serotonin. So if you want more of the feel-good chemical you need more magnesium!

Magnesium also plays a vital role in our mitochondria, which are responsible for creating our cellular energy. Magnesium stabilises the membranes of our mitochondria - this ensures the structural integrity of our cells.

Add bone density and and a healthy nervous system to the mix and it is easy to see why we all need to up our magnesium intake. It is extremely non toxic and is very difficult to have too much magnesium yet a deficiency can be the source of multiple issues.

As always get your magnesium from natural sources such as dark leafy greens, nuts, seeds, avocados, bananas or even a little dark chocolate!

Our increased consumption of processed foods is one element to blame for our deficiencies - these are very low in magnesium generally. Excess coffee, salt and alcohol also lowers our magnesium levels as does stress anxiety and depression. Oh and ladies - you are prone to lower levels so is doubly important you get your magnesium fix!

Hion - Natural or Synthetic Vitamin C?

The lergy season is upon us - the immune system is about to take a battering from the constant attacks from coughers and sneezers. Not forgetting that those that like to workout - compromising your immune system requires high levels of vitamins and minerals to ensure you can continue training.

What’s the go-to remedy for prevention and cure? VITAMIN C of course!!!!

Vitamin C is the first thing that crosses peoples minds when going into battle with colds and flu, whether that be the man type or not. Its a pretty good tonic to reach for all things considered - vitamin c is one of the safest and most effective nutrients experts say. It may not be the cure for the common cold (though it's thought to help prevent more serious complications). But the benefits of vitamin C may include protection against immune system deficiencies, cardiovascular disease, prenatal health problems, eye disease, and even skin wrinkling.

A recent study published in Seminars in Preventive and alternative medicine that looked at over 100 studies over 10 years revealed a growing list of benefits of vitamin C.

"Vitamin C has received a great deal of attention, and with good reason. Higher blood levels of vitamin C may be the ideal nutrition marker for overall health," says study researcher Mark Moyad, MD, MPH, of the University of Michigan. "The more we study vitamin C, the better our understanding of how diverse it is in protecting our health, from cardiovascular, cancer, stroke, eye health [and] immunity to living longer."

It may or may not be news to you but vitamin c supplements and multivitamins are almost all synthetic. These man-made pills are often labelled as containing ‘natural’ ingredients but these ingredients cannot be found in nature. Food science claim that these synthetics are close enough to the real thing to warrant being described and sold as such. Synthetics are not created in the same way as nature and therefore do not have the same compounds once manufactured.

The problem with synthetics is that the chemical process only manufactures ascorbic acid, which is one small part of a complex of phytonutrients that makes up natural vitamin c. The natural suff includes ascorbic acid, ascorbigon, tyrosinase, j factors, k factors, p factors, ruin and bioflavinoids which all work together to make the whole. The human body looks for more than an isolated ascorbic acid and when can only find one it scavenges the other nutrients from tissues and organs.

The manufactured vitamin is also less active and less absorbable - this gets worse the more you take. As you start dosing yourself heavily during cold and flu season the absorption actually decreases, further negating the benefits of vitamin c. Alone, ascorbic acid has been linked to DNA damage and may increase oxidation (helping those free radicals). It also kills the useful bacteria in your gut that aid digestion and help fight any bacterial infections.

A Swedish study also found that men are twice as likely to develop kidney stones from synthetic supplementation of vitamin c - so chaps especially, keep to the real stuff.

As an aside, the manufactured ascorbic acid is derived from corn starch and most manufacturers use GMO corn which is another issue.

Natural vitamin c is found in whole foods and whole food supplements and is less toxic than the synthetic. It is more readily absorbed as it comes a whole package not just the isolated ascorbic acid. Studies also show that vitamin c functions better when it is combined with other vitamins and minerals as found in whole foods and whole food supplements.

So give synthetics a wide berth - made in labs using harsh chemicals that would seem far removed from nature. Volatile acids, petroleum and acetone are typical ingredients and by products of synthetic supplements and our bodies do not recognise them - they are treated as poisons and the body has to work very hard to rid itself of them. Give your body less to worry about and stick to natural products not ‘natural’ products.

PURE LIVING

Why do we keep going on about PURE LIVING?

It's simple really......You only get one life, so we think you should make the most of it and live it the way you want to.

Forget for a minute that we are a supplement manufacturer, and instead think of us as a group of people who love life and want to live it to the full. We all know that to get the most out of life you have to put a lot of effort in to whatever you do, but for some reason the human brain often decides to ignore this obvious truth and instead seeks out the quick fix or the lazy route. This is a completely natural way of thinking, but ultimately one that actually achieves nothing.

We are not a fan of the quick fix, the short cut or the "compromise" in quality. To see more visit Facebook.
